Mmmm.. ramen

So I had nothing on on Friday night and didn't fancy staying in lab late.

Good ol' teuteberg stepped in and we went in search of mobile phones (which didn't quite work out cos the singtel shop he last remembered as being wedged between the heeren shops and swensons was no longer there. alas).

Nair mind.. on to the ah beng shops at Lucky plaza! Which didn't work out because they only sell phones without contracts, so that made it really expensive.

Nair mind! On to Paragon for dinner! We decided on Sushi Tei, which was running some super duper promotion thingie on Unagi and Uni. I wasn't very hungry, but seeing the pictures outside the restaurant sure made me salivate. But it didn't work out because they have a humungous waiting list and it was already 8.45pm. We left our numbers and wandered to the basement and decided to try out Shimbashi Soba.

BUT!

I had a brainwave. I will induct T into the cult of good ramen. We were already seated at the Soba place, but decided to leave. I must have excited T with visions of the stewed egg ramen which I described as a hard boiled egg, except with a runny, wobbly centre. Goup think is dangerous. I sold T an idea, and he bought it.

Ken's was just a few blocks down the road and we decided to walk, with a slight detour into Robinson's. Haven't been into Robinson's for ages and wow! Very nice stuff! That's the problem when you spend three quarters of your time holed up in the lab. Every once in a while, you decide to leave the hermitage and have a look at what's new, and it turns out that everything is new. I am sooo going back during the next sale, with T in tow. He's a great shopping partner and full of constructive advice too! Nope.. not gay. Just the rare guy who happens to like window shopping (*gasp!*)

Looking very pleased

Final stop, Ken's (Yay!). That's me lookign really smug with rice ball in one hand and chopsticks in the other. It's been a long time and everything's great! I don't know about T though. Remember the runny egg idea I sold him? Well.. it wasn't all that runny. It was in fact, almost all cooked. Did I remember wrongly or did he simply leave his egg in the soup for too long? My credibilty is gone!!! :(

Stewed egg char siew ramen
Stewed egg ramen with supposedly runny yolk that was not

I will have to find out the next time. Maybe Tohru will be up for some ramen soon....

Riiight, said Fred

So, Fred and I were watching TV the other night when an advertisement for the telecast of Miss Universe came up.

It was being touted as 'The Most Prestigious Title in the World'

I guess being a Nobel Leaureate doesn't quite cut it anymore, maybe the secretary general of the United Nations, or even the National Security Advisor of the United States.

In a past life

Chilling

Sunny day. Blue sky meeting pristine aquamarine waters. Island. Breeze. Salt caked skin. Coconut trees.

L-R Cheryl, me, Jean, Reg, Ale

Last Saturday was the wedding day of one of my girlfriends from Primary school.

I've known these girls for like, 22 years. Since Primary 1! And we've shared the same class on and off for an average of 7 years. With Ale, it was all the way from P1 to P6. Reg? P1-P5 and then bunged into the same class in secondary 1, 3 and 4. Same story with Cheryl and Jean. Like a very long game of musical chairs spanning 10 years.

What a long way we've come since those days at Mount Sophia.

Its nice to know that some things don't change. And no matter where our lives take us, we're still the same primary school girls underneath.

P.S Ya la.. I know. I look very auntie in the picture. My dress shopping endeavor failed!

Ok. I'll have to take a break from life in general the next couple of months to finish up my writing. Well.. obviously being the sort of procrastinator that I am, not every day will be 100% productive, but I will try my best. I've recently discovered that Spinelli's at the Uni hall is very conducive to work, primarily becaue I have no wifi or internet connection there. It is true. The 'net is a huge distraction. I've found myself surfing aimlessly, window shopping on Ebay, commiserating with other grad students around the world in the PhD forums. I can't seem to pull the plug. Until I get in the zone, I will just have to park my butt at Spin's ( I get my 10th free cup of coffee on Monday! Yay!)

I've been thinking of life post NUS too. Where I can go, what I can do. Should I stay in academia or move on to the Dark Side? While nothing is definite yet, there are certainly some ideas in the air. I might not be in Singapore next year. Who knows. Anyway, all these 'ideas' are moot if I don't graduate, so that will be my priority now.

So. I guess I'll see you guys in Oct/Nov (unless you work in the same department, in which case please check on me periodically just to make sure I'm still sane).
