Most incredulous thing I heard last week

"Are spiders animals?"

This, uttered at the end of a presentation of a first year Animal Behavior module.

The scandalized look on Prof's face - priceless.

well it's not an insect
but i think in the semantics of the english language, spiders would be considered an "animal"

wait it's in the animal kingdom and not the plant kingdom isn't it? :P

I don't think I'll graduate so fast!

Anyway, spiders are Arthropods, which puts them squarely in the Kingdom Animalia.

I didn't post the response to that question by the group, because I've forgotten, only thing I remembered is that there was alot of waffling about, before some lame answer was given. Think they are Arts students or something.
